Zorgwijk Fortunate added his name to Woodbine’s record book thanks in part to Mother Nature and two-time O’Brien Award-winning driver Jody Jamieson.
Mother Nature served up a ferocious tailwind on Saturday evening, and that certainly helped Zorgwijk Fortunate blast off the wings. Driver Jody Jamieson had the eight-year-old son of Wesgate Crown charged up from his Post 10 starting spot, and as a result the gelding threw down a wicked opening panel clocked in :25.4. He then lit up a :54.2 opening half and third-quarter speed of 1:25 before trotting home in a :31-second clip and finishing sixth.
The :25.4 opening quarter matched the track trotting record set by fellow speedsters Corn Cob Conch, Arva Crest Ago Go, Lance Hall, Susies Magic and Im Speechless. Zorgwijk Fortunate’s half-mile clocking of :54.2 matched Woodbine’s track record set back in 2000 by Im Speechless.

I'll bet the owners are thrilled with the record. How much money do they get?
