Not Enough had just enough left in her tank to hold on to victory in the $129,000 Overbid Series Final for free for all pacing mares on Friday night at Meadowlands Racetrack.
First to the lead, Not Enough made On The Glass (Yannick Gingras) work hard to clear the top in a :55.1 opening half before popping back out to re-take command. She opened up to a three-length lead at the top of the stretch and barely held off Laughandbehappy (David Miller) by a neck for the victory in 1:50.4. Ginger and Fred (Brian Sears) sat third the whole way and picked up the show money. Sent off the 8-5 favourite, Not Enough paid $5.20 to win the sixth race feature with Ron Pierce in the sulky.
The five-year-old mare, trained by Chris Oakes, improved her record to three wins in four starts this season. At three, Not Enough won the 2009 Mistletoe Shalee in a then-world record time of 1:49 at the Meadowlands. Bulletproof Enterprises owns the daughter of Grinfromeartoear-Party Planner, whose career bankroll now totals $1,368,575
"I figured [Ron Pierce] would race her a little more aggressively than he did last week," Oakes said. "I knew tonight he would put her in a spot where it was 'catch me if you can.' I just knew he was going to feed her racetrack and I thought she was the best mare in the race. We had a few anxious moments late, but thank God, she hung on and got the job done."
Delightful Diva pulled off a 9-1 upset over race favourite Rock N Soul (Yannick Gingras) in the $27,500 Fillies & Mares Preferred Pace. Brian Sears drove the six-year-old Bettors Delight-Mellowood Abby to a narrow 1:51.2 victory for trainer Lou Pena and KDM Stables Corp.
Chiodo Sits In The Sulky Saturday
Driver-trainer Stacy Chiodo will be the featured In The Sulky guest on Meadowlands Racetrack's Saturday night pre-card broadcast.
Chiodo, who reined Mighty Joe Young to a 1:55 victory on Feb. 5, is one of only 19 female drivers in history to win a race at the Meadowlands. Chiodo also owns the world record for the fastest mile ever driven by a female, which she earned guiding Mighty Young Joe to a 1:50.3 mark at Harrah's Chester in 2007.
Fans can e-mail questions for Chiodo to answer on-air to racing@thebigm.com. The broadcast begins at 6:30 p.m. on the Paddock Level television set and also airs live on MeadowlandsRacetrack.com.
