Multiple track records were set at the Bedford fairgrounds on Saturday as Quebec’s regional racing circuit kicked off its 2011 season.
Wayne LA wired the Invitational pacers, turning in a two length 1:59 winning effort in the featured $900 event, which matched the track record for aged pacers set by What A Beach. Nemo Du Ruisseau and Queen Des Rivieres finished second and third.
The nine-year-old son of Yankee Cam, a former North America Cup contender and career winner of nearly $300,000, is driven and trained by Eric Gnocchini for Ferme La Gueriniere Inc. of Saint-Sebastien, Que. He has won 22 times in 56 career starts.
Chantal P established a 2:12.2 track record for two-year-old trotting fillies while Soleil De Retour set a 2:09.3 record for three-year-old trotting geldings. Tango Coucou lowered Jim Dea's 2:12.2 three-year-old trotting colt record to 2:07.
Owner Marcel Brouillard of St-Marcel-De-Richelieu, Que. enjoyed a great start to the season as he sent out the top three finishers in the first two races.
